Shazam! sequel to have a Superman and Black Adam cameos?

The director of the sequel has addressed the long-anticipated potential cameos by the beloved DCEU characters in an Instagram session

David F. Sandberg, the director of the highly anticipated sequel movie – Shazam! Fury of the Gods has addressed the possibility of having Superman, played by Henry Cavill, and Black Adam, played by Dwyane Johnson, in the upcoming movie. The director who held a Q&A session in Swedish on Instagram to celebrate the National Day of Sweden mentioned the potential of a few cameo appearances that have been long expected by fans of the DC Extended Universe and DC Comics.

When confronted directly about a Black Adam cameo in the movie by one of the fans in the Q&A session, Sandberg outright denied the possibility, stating that he (Black Adam) has his own standalone movie which is scheduled to release in July 2022, almost a year before the scheduled release of Shazam! – The Fury of Gods. However, Sandberg also seemed to eagerly avoid the question about the cameo of Henry Cavill as Superman, which he jokingly avoided when asked. The first installment of Shazam! had a Superman cameo at the very end of the movie, although there was no actor who was put to the role with the hero’s face being left off-camera. With this suspicious avoidance in addressing the Superman cameo in the sequel by the director, fans are now expecting Cavill to don the cape of Superman for a cameo in the sequel.

According to the comics on which the movies are based, the characters of Black Adam and Shazam are heavily interlinked. It would be surprising and a bit disappointing if the two characters do not come up against each other on-screen at some point in the future. However, the absence of Black Adam in the second installment could possibly mean that the face-off is being saved for the third installment of Shazam or the probable Black Adam sequel, which can be potentially teased in a post-credit scene in either of the movies.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods, starring Zachary Levi, is scheduled to release on June 2, 2023, and fans will have a 2-year-long wait to see if the iconic characters will make a cameo appearance or not.
