Shraddha Das opens up about her acting journey, love for layered roles and differences between Bollywood and South cinema

Actor Shraddha Das reflects on her career across languages, sharing how meaningful characters inspire her choices. She also compares her experiences in South cinema and Bollywood, highlighting the unique pace, loyalty, and audience connection in both industries.

For actor Shraddha Das, the true excitement in acting comes from the depth of the character. “A layered character excites me,” she says, explaining that this instinct continues to guide her in choosing projects.

Speaking about her latest OTT series, Shraddha shared that her decision was influenced by the filmmaker she admired and the opportunity to work alongside Konkona Sen Sharma. “The script and my character had great layers and a complete arc. Having Konkona lead the series made it impossible to say no,” she revealed.

Over the years, Shraddha has built her career across languages without a film background or major launch. “I’ve come up doing smaller roles and different languages. Now, playing major parts in OTT shows feels rewarding,” she said. She added that she values substance over screen time, and being the lead has never been her only goal.

Interestingly, acting wasn’t her original dream. “I wanted to be a singer,” she recalled, sharing how fate turned her toward films after hundreds of auditions. Her Hindi debut Lahore and Telugu film with Gopichand marked key turning points in her career.

Comparing Bollywood and South cinema, Shraddha pointed out the striking differences in pace and publicity. “In the South, there’s no paid PR. Films move faster, and audiences are deeply loyal. In Hindi cinema, visibility matters more,” she said. She concluded that while the visibility of opinions has grown, the audience’s sensitivity and love for storytelling remain constant.
