Shruti Haasan, who recently played Preethi in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie, has spoken about her character after a fan questioned if she was unfairly shown as a damsel in distress. The actress gave a candid reply during an Instagram AMA session, sparking discussion around her role.
Coolie, which stars Rajinikanth as former union leader Deva, follows his quest for justice after the sudden death of his friend Rajasekhar, played by Sathyaraj. Shruti’s character Preethi is Rajasekhar’s daughter, who seeks Deva’s help to avenge her father. In the film, she faces multiple abductions, a plot point that led to the fan’s question about her portrayal. Shruti shared the query on her Instagram Stories and replied, “She was in distress and it is someone else’s vision. Not about fair or unfair.”
While addressing this, Shruti also interacted with fans on a lighter note, revealing that her least favorite color is Yellow and confirming that she plans to take up more Tamil films soon. She had earlier expressed that what excited her about Coolie was not just the chance to work with Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj but also the way her character added emotional depth to the story.
Produced by Sun Pictures with music by Anirudh Ravichander, Coolie was released on August 14 and opened alongside Ayan Mukerji’s War 2. Despite the clash, the film stormed the box office with ₹150 crore worldwide on day one and has already crossed ₹230 crore in India.
