SII to send 10 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses to UK

According to a statement by the UK government, the country will receive 10 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine made by the Serum Institute of India (SII).

“The UK has ordered 100 million doses of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine, of which 10 million doses will come from the Serum Institute of India,” a UK government spokesperson said.

Britain’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) was evaluating the manufacturing processes at SII in February to ship the AstraZeneca vaccine to the UK.

SII is mass producing the AstraZeneca vaccine, branded COVISHIELD to ship to a number of poor and middle-income countries. The demand for the vaccines has been rather higher from Western countries
