Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya claims Shah Rukh Khan was called ‘hakla’  by rival stars

Recently, singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya gained notoriety for his response to a fan-made mashup of the song Levitating by Dua Lipa and the well-known song Woh Ladki Jo by superstar Shah Rukh Khan from his movie Baadshah. He said that since the singer owned the song initially, he should be given credit rather than the actor.

In a recent podcast discussion on his YouTube channel, Subhankar Mishra discussed his long-standing collaboration with Shah Rukh and whether or not they have reconciled. Abhijeet talked about how he was let down by a lot of songs from the 1990s and even refused to sing on several of them because he didn’t like the way they were written.

“I had grown picky and a bit overly cautious about it, so I made the decision to sing only for Shah Rukh. That became problematic because he was referred to as “hakla” (stammerer) by many of his peers. I received an award for Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha at an award event that took place in Dubai.”

“One star came forward and said, ‘Aye!'” he continued as he was leaving the stage. “Are you singing for that stammerer, or hakle ke liye gaa raha hai na tu?”

“This was spoken by two people at the same time. I was taken aback! When I received the award for my singing, I asked myself, Why are they jealous? I began concentrating on my shows and concerts after that event, and I continued to lose interest in the playback singing. I still get great satisfaction from doing that.”

Tumne Jo Maine Dekha from Main Hoon Na, Tauba Tumhare Ishare from Chalte Chalte, Chaand Taare from Yes Boss, and Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Mein from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayege are just a few of the popular songs that Abhijeet has contributed to Shah Rukh flicks.
