Goalkeeper Ederson, defenders Joao Cancelo, John Stones, and Ruben Dias, as well as midfielders Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan, were all elected by their teammates after assisting Pep Guardiola’s City to the Premier League title.
Their selection reflects the caliber of their individual performances throughout the City’s title-winning season, with all six contributing significantly to the Club’s victory.
Ederson is in the lineup after winning the Golden Glove for the second year in a row while preserving 19 clean sheets for Pep Guardiola’s side. He was shielded by the league’s strongest defence, with City conceding four fewer goals than the nearest rivals Chelsea, and that form is enough to see Cancelo, Stones, and Dias nominated to the starting lineup for the first time.
The same can be said of Gundogan, our leading scorer in all competitions with 17 goals, who put in several magnificent displays on our way to the victory. De Bruyne is in the lineup for the second straight season and the third time in his career after a season in which he scored six goals and supplied 12 assists.
Second-place finishers Manchester United’s divisional team includes Luke Shaw and Bruno Fernandes. The rest of the squad included Tottenham duo Harry Kane (Golden Boot winner with 23 goals) and Heung-Min Son, as well as Liverpool star Mo Salah. Only De Bruyne remains from the PFA top XI from a year ago.
Phil Foden, City midfielder who made 50 appearances in all competitions in 2020-21, helping the club win the Premier League, Carabao Cup, and reach the Champions League final, is out. Kasper Schmeichel, the goalkeeper who led Leicester City to their first FA Cup victory, is also out.
