Snapchat plan of releasing Spotlight in India is not delayed says Snap’s Managing Director of International Markets

In a Interview with a leading online news agency, Snapchat revealed about the launch of its Spotlight app in India, Swathi Moorthy, Snap’s Nana Murugesan, Managing Director of International Markets revealed that Spotlight has previously been launched in US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and France and there is no delay in the launch in Indian market.

According to Swathi Moorthy, Snapchat is always looking to expand the availability in India but they are doing it in a thoughtful manner to ensure that there goals are meeting their efforts. Snapchat has crossed the 60 million active user mark in India and plans on doubling the user count as more and more people are engaging with its content. It saw over 150% daily active user growth YoY in Q4 of December 2020.

The messaging app is working really hard to create and make the app accessible for Indian markets by including content which is both culturally and locally relevant. The app currently support 9 languages. It also features special lenses to capture special moments while celebrating with families and loved ones various Indian festivals like Republic Day, Diwali, Holi, Buddha Jayanti, Pongal, Lohri and Makar Sankranti.

Snapchat faced quite a backlash few years ago when it’s existing partner released a statement claiming that the co-founder, Evan Spiegel called India a poor country which led to serious downfall in its user-base and share prices as Indian’s decided to uninstall the popular app and shift to Instagram.
