Actor Sonam Kapoor Ahuja is embracing a special phase in her life as she awaits the arrival of her second child with husband Anand Ahuja. Days before welcoming the new addition to their family, the couple hosted a traditional Godh Bharai ceremony at their Mumbai residence, surrounded by close friends and relatives.
The celebration, deeply rooted in Indian tradition, was marked by rituals and blessings for the mother-to-be. Sonam later shared a video on social media capturing intimate and unseen moments from the gathering. The clip featured cousins Arjun Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor and Shanaya Kapoor, along with close friends Kareena Kapoor Khan, Masaba Gupta and Bhumi Pednekar, among others.
For the ceremony, Anand Ahuja wore a classic white kurta pajama with gold detailing. Sonam, staying true to her style icon status, wore a hand-printed pistachio green ethnic ensemble, gracefully showcasing her baby bump.
Explaining the significance of the ceremony, Sonam described it as Seemantonnayan, one of the sixteen sacred sanskars in Sanatan Dharma. Known by various names such as Godh Bharai, Seemantham and Valaikappu across regions, the ritual celebrates motherhood and offers blessings for the unborn child.
In a note accompanying the video, Sonam expressed gratitude to her family, especially her mother, mother-in-law and sister, for organising the ceremony. She described feeling “deeply loved and cherished” on the occasion.
