The country’s Football Federation (RFEF) announced on Sunday that Sergio Busquets soon after testing positive for COVID-19 left Spain’s pre-Euro 2021 training camp. In the RFEF (Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol) statement, it says that the Spain captain Busquests has tested positive on Sunday along with the rest of the squad tested negative for COVID-19.
RFEF also added that those who have been in touch with the captain Busquests will remain quarantined as preventive measures. The squad will carry out the individual training programmes to prepare for Euro 2021, which begins on Friday. Spain will first face Sweden on June 14 and coach Luis Enrique has a deadline till Saturday to make as many changes to his squads ahead of their opening fixture in Seville.
RFEF further stated that appropriate sporting measures will be assessed according to the situation of the national team captain. Busquets has played over 120 matches for Spain and helped his country to win the 2010 Fifa World Cup and Euro 2012. Sergio had also won eight Spanish league titles and three Champions Leagues with Barcelona and even had been a host of other trophies. Due to Sergio’s positive result, the Spanish team will play their warm-up match against Lithuania with 21 players squad.
