The third installment in Sony’s Spider-Man animated universe has just revealed its directors, adding to the excitement for fans eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the franchise. Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, who have been integral to the Spider-Verse films from the very beginning, will be returning as directors for this highly anticipated project.
Both Persichetti and Thompson have deep roots in the franchise, having worked on the earlier films. Persichetti was part of the directorial trio for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and served as the executive producer for the 2023 sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Thompson, on the other hand, worked as the production designer on the first film before joining the directing team for Across the Spider-Verse. In addition to Persichetti and Thompson, Across the Spider-Verse also featured Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers as directors.
In a statement, both Persichetti and Thompson expressed how privileged they feel to have been involved in Miles Morales’ journey “from the very beginning.” They emphasized how exciting it is to direct the conclusion to his story. The directors also highlighted the creativity and passion that have gone into the making of the project, saying that working on the finale has been both fulfilling and inspiring. They assured fans that they’re pouring everything into this final installment and can’t wait for audiences to experience it.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) was a groundbreaking film that introduced audiences to Miles Morales and delivered the empowering message that “anyone can wear the mask.” It grossed $384 million worldwide and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, was even more successful, earning over $690 million globally.
Though Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally slated for release in 2024, its release date has now been delayed to an undisclosed time, leaving fans anxiously awaiting more news.
