Sridevi signed a rom-com before her death, reveals Kaalidhar Laapata director

Director Madhumita reveals Sridevi had agreed to star in a multilingual romantic comedy, a project that never took off due to her sudden demise

Sridevi, who made a memorable return to cinema with English Vinglish, was all set to star in another film before her untimely death. In a recent conversation, director Madhumita opened up about her personal meeting with the legendary actress and how a heartwarming rom-com was in the works.

“I had written a story for Sridevi ma’am. I went and pitched it to her, and she loved it. She said yes. It was the sweetest thing ever,” Madhumita shared. Their meeting happened after English Vinglish, and Sridevi even made green tea for her. The film was planned as a multilingual project in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, and it would have marked another big moment in the actress’s career.

Madhumita also discussed how Boney Kapoor, Sridevi’s husband, was involved in shaping the Hindi version. “I met Mr. Boney Kapoor as well. He had a few suggestions for the Hindi adaptation to suit that audience better,” she said. Sadly, the actress passed away before the project could move forward.

Following her passing, Madhumita chose not to go ahead with the film. “I can’t imagine another actress doing it. That script is shelved forever as a homage to her,” she explained. It’s a poignant reminder of the stories left untold and the performances we never got to witness.
