Filmmaker SS Rajamouli has raised excitement around his upcoming project Varanasi after unveiling a striking new poster on Friday. The visual, which depicts an asteroid racing towards Earth and causing massive destruction, offers a glimpse into the epic scale of the film and has quickly caught the attention of fans across social media.
Sharing the poster online, Rajamouli announced the film’s release date with a simple yet impactful caption: “April 7th, 2027… #VARANASI.” The announcement was soon amplified by the film’s lead actors, Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra, who also shared the poster on their respective social media platforms. Reacting to the reveal, Priyanka expressed her excitement, calling the moment special and sharing her enthusiasm for the project.
Varanasi was originally scheduled to hit theatres in January 2027. However, the makers have now shifted the release to April, a move that also helps the film avoid a box-office clash with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, which is slated for a March 2027 release. The new date gives the makers additional breathing room for the film’s extensive post-production and promotional plans.
The film boasts a strong ensemble cast, further adding to expectations. Mahesh Babu will be seen in the role of Rudhra, while Priyanka Chopra essays the character Mandakini. Prithviraj Sukumaran takes on the role of the antagonist, Kumbha. The title Varanasi was officially announced last November at a grand GlobeTrotter event held at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, where the ambitious scale of the project was first unveiled.With the latest poster and confirmed release date, Varanasi has firmly positioned itself as one of the most anticipated films on the horizon.
