Suhana Khan recalls early rejection that led her to acting ahead of her film King with Shah Rukh Khan

Suhana Khan may have grown up surrounded by cinema, but her journey towards acting was neither planned nor easy. In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar India, the actor shared that her love for performing began with rejection, not privilege. Long before her debut in Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies in 2023 and her upcoming film King with father Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana faced a moment that quietly changed her life.

While studying at Ardingly College in the UK, Suhana auditioned for a school play and hoped to get a role she truly wanted. When the cast list was put up, she discovered she had been given a place in the chorus instead. The result left her deeply disappointed. She recalled crying alone in her room, surprised by how strongly the rejection affected her. It was then that she understood how badly she wanted to act and how much being on stage meant to her.

Suhana admitted that she was not always sure about becoming an actor and even felt unsure about the path early on. However, that emotional setback helped her realise that acting was more than a family legacy. It became something personal, driven by passion and purpose. After completing her schooling, Suhana chose to train formally at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Currently, she is preparing to appear in King, where she is reportedly seen as a protégé to Shah Rukh Khan’s intense assassin character. For Suhana, the experience of learning and growing matters more than the final outcome, as she continues to take her first steps in cinema.
