In a recent interview on Chanda Kochhar’s podcast, actor Suniel Shetty opened up about a terrifying incident while shooting for Kaante in the United States. The actor revealed that he was held at gunpoint by police due to a misunderstanding following the 9/11 attacks.
Shetty shared that he arrived in the US just before the tragic events of September 11, 2001. On the first day of shooting, he watched the shocking news unfold on television. His wife, Mana Shetty, called him, concerned for his safety.
Recalling the frightening encounter, Suniel explained that one day he got locked out of his hotel room. When he asked an American guest in the elevator if he had a key, it led to confusion. “I had this beard and asked him if he had a key because I forgot mine. I thought he didn’t understand, so I gestured but that worked against me,” he said.
The guest panicked and caused a commotion, leading to armed police swarming the area. “The cops pointed guns at me and ordered me to kneel. They handcuffed me, I had no idea what was happening,” he added. The situation de-escalated only when the film’s Pakistani manager confirmed his identity as an actor.
Suniel Shetty was last seen in the 2023 film Operation Fryday and made a cameo in the 2024 film Ruslaan. He is currently filming Welcome to the Jungle and is set to return in Hera Pheri 3.
