“People have grave concern about loss of privacy. You (WhatsApp) may be a two trillion or three trillion company, but people value their privacy more than your money. It’s our duty to protect people’s privacy,” said a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde said.

The Supreme Court told Facebook and WhatsApp, that “citizens have great apprehension about loss of their privacy and they think that their data and chats being shared with others and it has to be looked into.”

Facebook and WhatsApp told the court that the fears were unsubstantiated. The court will now take the case for hearing again after 4 weeks.
