Supreme Court Dismisses plea by RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s Ex- Principal Sandip Ghosh

The Supreme Court on Friday, September 6, 2024, rejected a plea filed by Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College, challenging a Calcutta High Court order that called for a CBI investigation into corruption allegations against him. Ghosh has been under scrutiny for alleged financial irregularities at the State-run medical institution.

Simultaneously, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched search operations at multiple locations tied to Ghosh, including his residence in Beliaghata and two other properties in Howrah and Subhasgram. According to an official, these searches were part of an ongoing probe into the alleged mismanagement of funds at the medical college.

Union Minister of State and BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar commented on the case, accusing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of attempting to cover up the scandal since it first came to light. He further alleged that the party has been trying to tamper with evidence to shield those involved.

All four individuals targeted in the ED raids, including Ghosh and his three associates, are currently in CBI custody. The raids are part of a broader investigation into the misuse of public funds, raising further concerns about the governance of the medical institution. The case continues to evolve as both the CBI and ED deepen their probes into the financial misconduct claims.
