Supreme Court issues notice to Karisma Kapoor on Priya Sachdev’s plea seeking Sunjay Kapur divorce records

The legal battle surrounding the estate of late businessman Sunjay Kapur has taken another important turn, with the Supreme Court stepping in on a plea linked to his earlier divorce from actor Karisma Kapoor. On Friday, the apex court issued a notice to Karisma after Sunjay’s widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, sought access to documents related to the former couple’s 2016 divorce proceedings.

The Supreme Court has asked Karisma Kapoor to respond to Priya’s plea within two weeks. Justice AS Chandurkar heard the matter in chambers and directed that Karisma be served notice, marking a fresh development in the closely followed inheritance dispute.

Priya Sachdev approached the Supreme Court requesting certified copies of all records from the divorce case between Karisma and Sunjay. In her plea, she reportedly stated that the documents were required to verify details related to financial settlements and child custody arrangements that were finalised at the time of their separation.

According to Priya, following Sunjay Kapur’s death, she is now a legal heir and has a direct stake in matters connected to his estate. She further contended that the divorce documents are necessary for official use in connection with a pending succession case before the Delhi High Court.

The issue has gained attention amid claims by Sunjay Kapur’s children from his marriage with Karisma Kapoor, who have alleged that they were unfairly excluded from his will. The Supreme Court’s notice adds a new layer to the legal proceedings surrounding the disputed estate.
