The Pawar family feud went on display today as rebel faction of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar and his uncle Sharad Pawar held rival meetings in Mumbai.
Ajit Pawar, who has led the rebellion against his uncle and NCP chief Sharad Pawar, questioned the 83-year-old about his leadership of the party and expressed his wish to take over.
“In other parties, leaders retire after an age. In BJP, leaders retire at 75, when are you going to stop?” stated Ajit. He added that his uncle should give chance to the younger generation and guide them. Flaunting his 29 MLAs out of the party’s 53 MLAs, Ajit added that the most productive years for anybody is 25 to 75 years.
Further ahead, he also took a dig at his cousin and Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule, whose elevation as NCP’s working president was seen as a snub to him. Ajit, who joined the Eknath Shinde-led government, said, “Is it our fault that we weren’t born in a powerful family?”
In a parallel rally, Supriya Sule gives a befitting reply to her cousin at a rally, where 14 MLAs showed up. She stated, “Some people are saying that people who are senior now should give us blessing, Why should they stop working? Ratan Tata is 86 years old.” The MLA went on to name actor Amitabh Bachchan, Serum Institute’s Cyrus Poonawala, Warren Buffet, and Farooq Abdullah.
