SZA recently responded to trolls who compared her body and personality from her 2020 quarantine days to her current self, specifically calling out comments about her weight and Brazilian butt lift (BBL). On December 30, she clapped back on X (formerly Twitter) after a fan page posted a throwback video of her from the 2020 quarantine, with the caption, “I miss this era so much.” While most fans were supportive, one negative comment about her changing body caught SZA’s attention, prompting her to express frustration.
She tweeted, “Y’all say weird s–t like this and wonder why I’m different and don’t feel comfortable w y’all anymore. Lol,” addressing the focus on her weight and appearance.
In a follow-up tweet, SZA clarified that despite appearing happy in the throwback video, she was actually struggling emotionally during that time. “Covid was hard… my granny had just died… I was hella depressed n masking. Not eating. Over working out,” she shared, adding that she was grateful to be in a much better mental space now. She also mentioned that she still finds comfort in her childhood home.
Despite the negativity, SZA plans to leave behind even more toxicity in 2025, revealing that she intends to change her phone number in the new year.
SZA also discussed her experience with plastic surgery, including the BBL she had in 2022 after not seeing results from her gym efforts. However, she admitted to British Vogue that she regretted the decision, explaining that the recovery process led her to gain weight, which she felt was a “stupid” move. Even though she’s open to possibly getting more work done, SZA emphasized that her mental health is her current priority. She did, however, embrace her BBL, noting that the results looked natural and she’s grateful for them, as it was something she had wanted for a long time.
SZA’s openness about her struggles, both physical and emotional, and her decision to prioritize mental health moving forward, highlights her growth and resilience despite the ongoing public scrutiny.
