SZA playfully dodged Keke Palmer and Issa Rae’s questions about Drake’s kissing skills

SZA has always been a pro at keeping her personal life under wraps, and during a recent Hot Ones appearance, she maintained that discretion—especially when it came to her past romance with Drake. Teased by her co-stars, Keke Palmer and Issa Rae, about her 2009 fling with the rapper, SZA refused to spill the details, even when Palmer asked if Drake was a good kisser.

“I said F—you in advance,” SZA quipped, signaling her intention to steer clear of the gossip. As the pressure mounted, Palmer and Rae teamed up to try and get a straight answer out of her, but SZA remained steadfast. “We were children. 2009? We were children,” she said, clearly not interested in revisiting the past. Despite the playful grilling, SZA still ended up eating the spicy wing as a punishment for not divulging more.

Drake famously referenced his past with SZA in his 2020 song Mr. Right Now, claiming they dated in 2008. However, SZA clarified on Twitter that their fling actually happened in 2009, humorously noting that the discrepancy was due to Drake’s “poetic rap license.”

Since then, SZA and Drake have remained on good terms, with SZA telling Audacy in 2022 that they were “cool” and always had been. She appreciated how Drake always spoke highly of her, and vice versa. In fact, the two collaborated on the track Slime You Out in September 2023, and Drake even mentioned her again on his 2024 diss track Push Ups, where he rapped about how SZA, Travis Scott, and 21 Savage had surpassed Kendrick Lamar in popularity.

SZA’s ability to navigate her past while keeping things light-hearted and classy certainly makes her one to watch—especially when spicy wings are involved.
