Actor Taapsee Pannu has offered a blunt assessment of what she describes as an increasingly aggressive public relations culture within the Hindi film industry. Speaking to Times Now News, the actor said the so-called “PR game” has evolved into something far more troubling, where money is not just spent to promote oneself but, at times, to undermine others.
Reflecting on the last couple of years, Taapsee said she has consciously slowed down professionally, a decision that gave her space to observe how the industry operates today. According to her, the idea of success has become misplaced, with narratives often being manufactured to maintain relevance. She questioned why an actor’s growth should be tied to someone else’s failure, calling the trend deeply uncomfortable.
Taapsee also pointed out what she sees as a growing disconnect between public image and actual work. She noted that many now feel pressured to project a strong voice beyond their films, even when that persona does not align with the roles they choose. For her, this mismatch between image-building and on-screen work is where the problem lies.
Making it clear where she stands, the actor said she prefers spending her money on herself and her loved ones rather than “planting articles” to stay in the news. Taapsee began her acting journey with the Telugu film Jhummandi Naadam in 2010 and made her Hindi debut with Chashme Baddoor in 2012. Over the years, she has built a diverse filmography with titles such as Baby, Mulk, Thappad, Badla and Haseen Dillruba.
She was last seen in Khel Khel Mein and will next appear in Gandhari, a revenge drama directed by Devashish Makhija, set to premiere on Netflix.
