After more than two decades, Tabu and Akshay Kumar are finally coming together again on the big screen. Their last full-fledged pairing was in the 1996 action comedy Tu Chor Main Sipahi, a film remembered for their effortless chemistry.
Although they appeared together in Hera Pheri in 2000, Tabu was paired opposite Suniel Shetty at the time. Now, the duo is reuniting for Bhooth Bangla, Priyadarshan’s upcoming horror comedy slated for a 2026 release.
Speaking about returning to a familiar team after so many years, Tabu shared that she had mixed feelings on the first day of shoot. In a conversation with ETimes, she recalled arriving on set unsure of how things would feel after such a long gap. While she had stayed in touch with director Priyadarshan, she had barely met Akshay socially over the years. But stepping onto the set instantly reminded her of why she enjoyed working with them.
Tabu described Priyadarshan as the same expressive and impatient filmmaker she has always known, someone who still prefers one-take performances. When it came to Akshay, she said his discipline remains unchanged. According to her, he still wakes up at 4 am, finishes shoots early, avoids parties, and constantly encourages everyone to sleep on time. She added that while both of them have grown over the years, Akshay’s humour and lively energy remain exactly the same.
Tabu, who was last seen in Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha in 2024, is gearing up for a packed 2026 with Bhooth Bangla and Puri Jagannadh’s next Tamil-Telugu project featuring Vijay Sethupathi.
