Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez’s girls’ night takes a ‘London boy’ twist

Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez enjoyed a fun-filled girls’ night out on February 4, but an unexpected blast from the past made its way into their evening—Swift’s ex, Joe Alwyn.

The Kinds of Kindness actor wasn’t physically present, but a bartender at Negroni Caffe Bar in Beverly Hills added a playful twist to the night by serving Swift a cocktail named London Boy. The drink’s name is a clear reference to the track from her 2019 album Lover, which many fans believe was inspired by Alwyn.

Bartender Wyatt, who served the drinks, took to Instagram to share his excitement. “I can’t believe I got to serve The London Boy to #TaylorSwift herself!” he wrote, posting a picture of the yellow cocktail adorned with delicate flowers.

Wyatt admitted that he once believed meeting celebrities in real life could be disappointing, even quoting singer Halsey’s infamous remark that “idols are f**ing weirdos.”* However, his experience with Swift was the complete opposite.

“She was as kind as she is stunning!” he gushed. The bartender later reshared the post on his Instagram story, revealing that the Cruel Summer singer had “approved” of the London Boy drinks.

Swifties immediately picked up on the irony of the situation, given that London Boy is widely believed to have been written about Alwyn during his relationship with Swift. The song, which playfully references British culture and Alwyn’s London roots, was one of the most beloved tracks on Lover.

Swift and Alwyn dated from 2016 until their quiet split in 2023. Since then, the Midnights singer has moved on with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and she reportedly didn’t mind the subtle nod to her past romance during the night out.

While Swift was sipping on the London Boy, her bestie Selena Gomez indulged in another cocktail called Lonely Muse. According to a Negroni Caffe Bar spokesperson, the duo was in high spirits throughout the evening.

“They were very sweet, giggly with each other, and having fun,” the spokesperson told Page Six. The Emilia Pérez actress also snacked on traditional Latin American cuisine, making the night even more enjoyable.

Despite the unexpected London Boy moment, Swift and Gomez seemed unbothered and in a relaxed mood. With Swift gearing up for the next leg of her Eras Tour and Gomez continuing her acting ventures, the two took a well-deserved break to enjoy some quality time together.
