Tesla to make cars in India

Tesla is looking to set up a car manufacturing unit in India after setting up a unit in China according to Bloomberg. They see this as a growth opportunity.

They are currently planning to set up their first unit in the suburbs of Bengaluru, Karnataka as confirmed by the Chief Minister of Karnataka. Tesla has been speaking to officials for the past six months in order to finalise the deal and set up the unit. They also plan to set up an R&D facility according to sources contacting Bloomberg. Tesla owner Elon Musk previously hinted at tapping the Indian market by tweeting “as promised” in response to a blog stating Tesla is in talks with Indian states.

Tesla’s foray in Indian markets can prove to be challenging because the country hasn’t yet welcomed electronic vehicles the way China has, where Tesla set up its first unit outside America.
