Although the Middle-earth renaissance is currently in full swing, fans’ sharp ears aren’t just perked up by the fantasy series Rings of Power. In reality, a new Lord of the Rings film will be released in the future, away from the tiny screen.

That’s right, The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim, a brand-new animated film, will bring Middle-earth back to the big screen. The kingdom of Rohan, which is mostly featured in The Two Towers, and its struggle to defend itself from outside dangers will be the focus of the film, which will also feature a number of lesser-known characters from Tolkien’s work.

Is War of the Rohirrim an Anime?

Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim, the next Lord of the Rings film, will be an anime film. Middle-earth enthusiasts will get the ability to experience Tolkien’s universe in an entirely new way for the first time thanks to this, which will set it distinct from earlier Lord of the Rings ventures.

The film is being made by the production companies New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Animation, and Sola Entertainment in tandem, fusing their prior Lord of the Rings and anime filmmaking expertise. Despite being an anime, War of the Rohirrim will still draw inspiration from Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy for its visual style, and renowned Tolkien illustrators Alan Lee and John Howe are both contributing to the project in a creative capacity.

The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim cast

The voice cast for The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim will be anime-specific. A returning actor from the Lord of the Rings films is among the actors who have already been confirmed.

Miranda Otto will reprise her role as Éowyn, the shield maiden of Rohan, King Théoden’s niece and Éomer’s sister, and she is the returning actress. Éowyn won’t be a part of the plot itself; she will serve as the movie’s narrator.

Brian Cox, famed for the drama series Succession, is the second well-known name that has been confirmed. He will portray Helm Hammerhand, a famous ruler of Rohan. In addition, numerous other actors have been cast in both confirmed and unconfirmed roles in the upcoming Lord of the Rings film.

The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim Plot

Over a century will pass before the events of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the War of the Ring in The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim. The focus of the upcoming Lord of the Rings film will be on the mythical king of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, who served as the inspiration for the castle of Helm’s Deep in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, where King Théoden led his subjects to be protected from Saruman’s Uruk-Hai.

The cartoon fantasy film will follow Helm Hammerhand as he defends Rohan from the Dunlendings, a ferocious race of men that lived in the Dunland and the plains around Rohan.

The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim Release Date

The current release date for The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim is April 12, 2024. We can be sure that the new Lord of the Rings film will be released in 2024, but this is obviously susceptible to change due to probable delays and pushbacks.

Although it would sound like a very long time off, the movie will really be released in April, which puts it at less than a year and a half. And if you need a Tolkien fix before then, you can always watch the brand-new Rings of Power TV series.
