Krutika, also known on the internet as @themermaidscales, was the sole Indian influencer present at the recent Barbie premiere in Los Angeles, California.
The influencer, who specialises in comedy routines and has over 7 million followers, said she was “excited” to be the only representation of her nation at the event. “I saw Barbie films growing up and thought they were magical. It felt incredible and really special, as an adult, to be able to relive that experience at a global event, says Krutika, who is currently in the US.
During her undergraduate years, the Mumbai-based lady made her first foray into the realm of content creation: “When I first started out, I wasn’t making movies, but sharing outfit images. I recall getting ready around 5 a.m., leaving for various picturesque locales in and around Mumbai to get the best photo opportunities. However, I then started drawing humorous sketches, and it was successful for me.
The 24-year-old, who now works as a content creator full-time, never intended to become well-known on Instagram. “It developed naturally. Even now, I have no idea how this occurred. One morning, I found that a video had performed well. “We love you and your films,” others had commented,” she adds.
She has a significant social media following, thus trolling is unavoidably a part of her existence. When asked how she responds to trolls or bullies online, Krutika replies, “Yes, I get negative feedback. I believe that you will always encounter mean people in your life, whether they be online bullies, loved ones, or friends. But I just scroll away and don’t give a damn about them. I think it’s important to brush off hatred.”
