The Odyssey trailer: Christopher Nolan returns with Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland in a grand epic

The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan, has released its first trailer. In the movie, Matt Damon plays the Greek hero Odysseus, who is travelling home with his companions following the bloody Trojan War. The two-minute trailer frequently offers brief, largely ambient glimpses into the narrative. They have to go back to their families after enduring agony, death, chaos, and sights unseen by human eyes.

But the trip isn’t much better than the torture they’ve already endured. Tom Holland plays Odysseus’ son Telemachus, while Anne Hathaway plays his wife Penelope. Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, and other actors play a variety of characters in the film.

After winning the Best Director Oscar for Oppenheimer, this will be Nolan’s first motion picture. In that movie, Cillian Murphy played J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb. Homer’s epic poetry, The Odyssey, describes Odysseus’s treacherous return home following the Trojan War. He uses cunning and perseverance to fight monsters, temptation, and fate.

Nolan’s next film isn’t the epic’s first adaptation. The 1954 film Ulysses was one of its earlier adaptations. Kirk Douglas starred in the Mario Camerini-directed movie. “Odyssey” served as the inspiration for Coen Brothers’ 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou? Early tickets for the movie’s July 17, 2026, theatrical release from Universal have already sold out.
