As anticipation builds for its Sankranthi release, The Raja Saab, directed by Maruthi and headlined by Prabhas, has successfully cleared the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The horror comedy has been granted a UA 16+ certificate after the makers implemented a series of changes suggested by the censor body.
According to certification details dated December 24, 2025, the film’s final runtime stands at 189 minutes, or three hours and nine minutes. The CBFC clearance came only after specific visual and technical modifications were made. One of the key changes involved a scene showing blood being washed off a floor. Originally running for 35 seconds, the sequence was altered by converting it into monochrome visuals.
Another scene featuring brief flashes of a beheading was also flagged. Instead of modifying it, the makers opted to remove the four-second visual entirely. In addition to visual edits, changes were carried out in the film’s audio description (AD) and closed captioning (CC) to meet certification guidelines.
The Raja Saab is scheduled to release in theatres on January 9 and will enter a crowded festive box-office window. The film faces stiff competition from several major releases across Telugu and Tamil cinema. Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan will hit screens the same day, with its Telugu version titled Jana Nayakudu. Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi is expected to release in Telugu states on January 10, followed by Chiranjeevi’s Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu on January 12.
Further intensifying the clash, Naveen Polishetty’s Anaganaga Oka Raju and Sharwanand’s Nari Nari Naduma Murari are slated for January 14 releases, making this Sankranthi one of the most competitive box-office periods in recent times.
