Walmart
Right now, Walmart is the world’s largest corporation. In 2021, the American retailer generated a staggering $559.2 billion in revenue. This figure is even more impressive when you consider that Walmart is not present in every country. In Europe, for example, it has a relatively small presence. However, the Arkansas-based company founded by Sam Walton in 1962 remains by far the most popular supermarket in the Americas, accounting for the majority of Walmart’s half-trillion-dollar revenue last year. Walmart is also the world’s largest private employer, employing over 2 million people worldwide.
State Grid
State Grid is a Chinese electric utility company with a monopoly on the market (which happens to be the most populous in the world). All power plants and other electrical infrastructure in China are built and owned by State Grid. Furthermore, the corporation has recently begun to invest in a variety of international projects.
Amazon
The world’s largest online retailer is also one of the world’s ten largest corporations. Amazon, founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest man at the time, is now a truly global phenomenon, selling a huge variety of products all over the world. It has also established itself as a major IT and technology company.
China National Petroleum
Another state-owned Chinese company is currently the fourth-largest. Although it is not just any company, Beijing-based China National Petroleum is now the world’s largest oil and gas company.
Sinopec
By revenue, Sinopec is the world’s second-largest oil and gas company. The state-owned Chinese Oil and Gas Corporation is one of the world’s largest producers of refined oil and gas.
