Thomas Partey excused from Ghana training camp, was not sacked

Earlier reports on Monday indicated that Thomas Partey had been sacked from the Black Stars camp for indiscipline.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has debunked the news that Arsenal star Thomas Partey was sacked from the training camp due to indiscipline and being late to a team meeting. It confirmed that Partey was not part of the team that travelled to the Morocco friendly that was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 8.

Earlier reports from various news outlets, some of them Ghanian reported falsely that the midfielder had been suspended/sacked from the squad due to turning up late for a team meeting. But these rumours and false reports were dismissed by the Ghanian FA with their statemen.

“Thomas travelled to Cape Coast on Thursday to meet Coach Charles Akonnor over some personal issues. After the meeting which lasted for about an hour, the coach excused him from the trip to Morocco – and asked him to report to camp for the second game against Ivory Coast.

“As the 1st Deputy Captain of the Black Stars, Thomas later joined his colleagues in training to show solidarity and support before leaving for Accra. The Arsenal midfielder will therefore team up with the rest of the squad on Thursday when the team returns from Morocco,” the FA’s statement said on Monday, June 7.

Partey will however rejoin his Black Stars teammates for their next friendly match against Ivory Coast at the Cape Coast.
