On Saturday, three people were killed in a fire that destroyed houseboats on Srinagar’s iconic Dal Lake, PTI reported citing officials.
They stated the burnt remains were recovered in the early hours of Saturday near ghat number nine.
The deceased included a man and a woman, with the gender of the third victim unknown at this time. As reported by PTI, their identity was also being ascertained.

At least five houseboats were burned to ashes in the early Saturday morning incident.
The fire, which is believed to have originated on a houseboat at Ghat number 9, soon spread and engulfed four nearby houseboats, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Special teams from the fire department responded immediately, rushing to the area to put out the fire. The disaster’s financial toll is expected to be substantial, with estimates around crores.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, but initial reports indicate that a short circuit might have been the cause of it.
