The Trinamool Congress (TMC) came up with a slogan for the upcoming elections – ‘Bengal wants its own daughter.’
The slogan came a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate for chief minister of West Bengal won’t be an outsider. The TMC slogan attempts to portray the current CM of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee as an ‘insider.’ TMC MP Derek O’Brien said that the slogan is open to interpretation. He also said that everything Banerjee did for the state has been summed up through the slogan.
The campaign for the Assembly Elections for the TMC is headed by Prashant Kishore. TMC leaders Abhishek Banerjee and Bratya Basu tweeted in support of Mamata Banerjee along with the hashtag #BanglaNijerMeyekeiChay (Bengal wants its own daughter).
