Pranati Nayak, the only gymnast from India who went to participate in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, could not make it to the all-around finals of the Artistic Gymnastics event. Her overall score was 42.565 in all four categories (floor exercise, vault, uneven bar, and balance beam). She ranked 29th after the second subdivision. But couldn’t qualify to the finals as Only the top 24 players go to the all-around final.
The top 24 gymnasts from five subdivisions make it to the all-around final which will be played on July 29. The top 8 gymnasts from each category will play in the finals of the individual event, which will be held from August 1 to 3. Pranati scored 10.633 in the floor,13.466 in the vault, 9.033 in the uneven bar, and scored 9.433 in balance.
Pranati, however, did not get much time to prepare for the Olympics. She made it to the Tokyo Olympics through the continental quota. The Asian Championships to be held in the last week of May was canceled due to the Corona pandemic. After which Pranati got the Olympic quota because of the previous results. She won the bronze medal at the 2019 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
Dipa Karmakar had performed brilliantly in the Rio Olympics last year but she could not win a medal and finished fourth. This time there were high hopes from Dipa but she could not go to Tokyo. In such a situation, the country expected from Pranati that she would do well but her performance was disappointing.
