Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, faced a close call when their Pacific Palisades home narrowly escaped the destruction caused by the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires. The couple’s $26 million property, which they bought in 2010, was spared from the flames, though the cliffside mansion directly above it was not as fortunate.
Their son, Chet Hanks, shared his worry on Instagram, expressing concern for his childhood neighborhood. “The neighborhood I grew up in is burning to the ground rn. Pray for the Palisades,” he wrote.
While Hanks and Wilson’s current home was acquired after Chet had grown up, the couple has a long-standing connection to the Pacific Palisades area. Prior to this home, they owned a Spanish-style villa, which they bought as newlyweds in 1991. They sold it in 2014 for $5 million. Additionally, Hanks owns a beach house in Malibu, purchased in 1991, though it remains unclear if that property was affected by the fires.
The wildfires that started earlier this week have devastated large areas, with many celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, Leighton Meester, and Adam Brody, reportedly losing their homes.
