Because of its location at the foot of the Himalayan mountains, the town is great for taking in the scenery. Walking excursions and day treks up and around the mountains are available from a number of locations. The scenery is spectacular, and many visitors come specifically for the purpose of trekking.
Rothney Castle is worth a visit.
The naturalist Allan Octavian Hume, who formed the Indian National Congress in 1885, lived at Rothney Castle on Jakhoo Hill.
Ornithology, the study of birds, is named after him. The castle once housed the world’s biggest collection of stuffed Asiatic birds, which was ultimately donated to the British Museum.
