You’ve put in a lot of effort, worked long hours, and endured insomnia. It’s now time for you to graduate and honour all of your years of study. What do you wear then? Here are the greatest outfits for you to wear on your graduation day, regardless of whether you are receiving your degree or have completed high school. Bring your camera, cap, and gown, and command attention like a star!
What to wear as a grad?
You want to look your best when choosing what to wear to your graduation, but there are other things to think about as well, such as the weather, your schedule, the sort of surface you’ll be walking on, and more.
1. Select walking shoes
It took me all day to walk to my college graduation. Between my residence, the ceremony in the stadium, lunch, and friends’ homes for parties and department-specific ceremonies all over campus, I probably walked 20,000 steps.
2. WEAR A DRESS IF IN DOUBT
There aren’t any strict clothing codes for graduation, but if in doubt, go for a dress like the white one I’m wearing in the photo above. It’s usually preferable to be overdressed than underdressed because this is a celebration of your hard work. You could choose to wear a stylish jumpsuit, skirt, or slacks with a blouse.
3. WHEN SELECTING A DRES’S LENGTH, KNOW WHERE YOUR GOWN WILL HIT.
Your graduation cap and gown will feel quite heavy on you, and you’ll feel very covered up. Try to keep the length of your graduation dress shorter than your gown to make things simpler for yourself. Choose a midi, mini, or knee-length dress. These should keep you cooler and make you look better when you cross the stage (no strange colours or prints poking out for photos).
4. SELECT ACCESSORIES THAT WON’T BE DISREGARDED
Particularly if you receive honours, flowers or cords, necklaces and bracelets will be tucked under your robe.
Try wearing earrings that will bring attention to your face throughout the wedding. Stingers are ideal. You might wear striking earrings but try to keep your look timeless since you’ll always have your graduation photos.
What to wear as a guest?
Here are a few things to consider while choosing what to dress as a guest to graduation.
1. OVERDRESSING IS PREFERABLE
The ceremony dress code will typically be stated on the invitation, but if you’re unsure, it’s reasonable to anticipate conservative yet sophisticated wear. You’ll feel more at ease dressed up than down, so avoid wearing jeans at all costs!
The only options left are a lovely dress, a skirt and blouse, or pants and a top.
2. STAY COMFORTABLE
Graduation ceremonies are lengthy affairs, and if they are held outside in the heat, they may seem considerably longer. Given that you might spend up to two hours sitting, choose comfortable clothing. Stay away from anything that is overly tight, scratchy, or heavy.
3. PREPARE FOR THE WEATHER
This is important! If it’s indoors, the air conditioning is likely to be on full blast to accommodate the crowd, so think about bringing a layer (formal blazer, cardigan, or shawl).
Dresses with short sleeves or thin straps are best for ceremonies held outside. Consider using a breathable, light material like rayon, cotton, or linen. Remember to bring your shades, too!
