Milkha Singh (born 20 November 1929) also referred to as The Flying Sikh, is an Indian former track and field sprinter who was introduced to the game while serving within the Indian Army. he’s the sole athlete to win Gold within the 400m at the Asian also the Commonwealth Games. He also won gold medals within the 1958 and 1962 Asian Games. He represented India within the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome and therefore the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, in recognition of his sporting achievements.
The race that Singh is best remembered is his fourth-place finish within the 400 metres final at the 1960 Olympic Games, which he had entered together of the favourites. He led the race till the 200m mark before easing off, allowing others to pass him.

In 2001, he turned down an offer of the Arjuna Award from the Indian government, arguing that it was intended to recognize young sports people and not those such as him.
