After Facebook Inc blocked the content of Australian news sites on its social media platform, the total web traffic on the news sites dropped by almost 13 per cent.
“Unfortunately, Facebook’s disappearance has resulted in a hit to publishers’ traffic numbers: when Facebook traffic dropped off, overall Australian traffic did not shift to other platforms,” a spokeswoman of the New York-based analytics firm Chartbeat said.
Facebook banished users from sharing or perusing news from Australian distributers on its foundation in dissent of an approaching law that will drive it and Alphabet Inc’s Google to pay distributers for content.
The total traffic on Australian news sites via different international platforms reduced by 30%. The total traffic from Facebook fell to 2% as compared to 21% before the ban.
