Trump administration slashes US refugee cap from 125,000 to 7,500

According to the Associated Press, the administration of Donald Trump has said that it will limit the number of refugees it will let into the United States to 7,500. The cap is a significant drop from the 1,25,000 cap imposed by the Biden administration last year.

The announcement was posted on the Federal Registry by the administration on Thursday. According to the memo, the 7,500 migrants were admitted for the fiscal year 2026 because they were “justified by humanitarian concerns or are otherwise in the national interest.” The administration was thinking of admitting as few as 7,500 refugees and primarily white South Africans, according to earlier reports from the Associated Press.
