Actor Tusshar Kapoor has shared fresh insights into his decision to become a single father, revealing how a defining moment in his late thirties reshaped his life. While many know him as a key face of Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal franchise and the son of veteran star Jeetendra, Tusshar says fatherhood remains his most meaningful role.
In a recent interaction with Meri Saheli, the actor spoke about choosing parenthood at 39, despite never marrying. In June 2016, he welcomed his son Laksshya Kapoor through surrogacy, taking what he describes as a step-by-step, well-thought-out path toward becoming a parent. The decision, he clarified, came without family pressure.
Tusshar admitted that while he believes in marriage as an institution, he realised it was not his personal calling. His father Jeetendra, whom he describes as “very old school Indian,” holds traditional views on marriage and family life. Yet, despite their differences, the senior actor respected his son’s independent choice.
A chance meeting with filmmaker Prakash Jha during a delayed flight proved pivotal. In a candid conversation, Jha suggested that single parenthood could be an option if marriage was not destined for him. The idea prompted Tusshar to consult doctors and move ahead thoughtfully.
Having spent five years in the US, Tusshar says he learned to live independently. Today, he balances his professional commitments with hands-on parenting, redefining family on his own terms.
