Social networking service Twitter takes down more than 97% of Twitter accounts that the IT ministry accused of posting “inflammatory content” related to the ongoing farmers’ protests. The accounts using the ‘farmers genocide’ hashtag and accounts having Pakistani and Khalistani operators were blocked.
The government identified 1,435 accounts of wrongful activities in context to the farmers’ protests of which 1,398 accounts were taken down.
After IT secretary Ajay Prakash held a meeting with Twitter executives Monique Meche and Jim Baker late Wednesday evening, Twitter took action on the accounts.
“We view this as a positive step that Twitter has taken. It does culminate from the meaningful and healthy conversations that we had with the global executives of the company,” a government source told TOI.
