UEFA suspends the match after Christian Eriksen collapses on the field

Denmark was supposed to take on Finland at Copenhagen in the first round of the Group A match on Saturday but the match could not be finished because of some unforeseen conditions that happened on the pitch after Christian Eriksen collapsed suddenly while running near the left touchline in the first half of the game.

Christian Eriksen’s teammates formed a ring around him as medics gave him CPR just before halftime in the group A clash in Copenhagen. Both the teams subsequently left the field with the officials holding up the sheets to hide the stricken players from the view that could have been inappropriate to the audience and millions of other people watching him on television sets. He was taken to a local hospital in Copenhagen where his condition is now stable.

UEFA suspended the group A opener due to a medical emergency in this game, the game will be played in the coming week after being rescheduled, both team and match officials will be meeting to discuss the further proceedings. The hosts, Denmark have not lost to Finland at their home since 1949 but the Finnish team who is being led by Markku Kanerva will be looking forward to playing again Denmark after Eriksen recovers and be able to participate again in the game.
