A UK man has filed a lawsuit against six officials from the United Arab Emirates in which he claimed that he was tortured and falsely imprisoned when he visited the Middle East country for a vacation in 2019.
Ali Issa Ahmed watched an Asian Cup game between UAE and Qatar in 2019 and he claims that he was imprisoned for doing so. He was also charged for making false statements and wasting police time after he said that he was beaten for supporting the Qatari national team. He was held in remand from January 23 to February 12 and he was subjected to intentional physical and psychological harm and also neglected as the lawsuit claims.
He said that he was wearing a Qatar jersey and he was approached by officials and asked to hand over the jersey he was wearing as showing sympathy for Qatar is punishable in UAE and can lead to a jail term of up to 15 Years. He said that he was later punched in the face, handcuffed and left bleeding by security officials after he wore a different Qatar shirt at the beach the next day.
He has filed a lawsuit against the head and second-in-command of the Abu Dhabi police force, the head of Sharjah police force and the head of the state security police prosecution in Abu Dhabi
