UK PM Keir Starmer arrives in Mumbai, to meet external affairs minister Jaishankar today

Keir Starmer, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, arrives in Mumbai for a two-day visit. He is scheduled to visit Yash Raj Studios, go to a football match at Cooperage Ground, and meet with a number of prominent businessmen today.

He is anticipated to be called in for talks by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in the evening. More formal diplomatic and corporate events are scheduled for tomorrow, the visit’s official workday.

In accordance with Vision 2035, Starmer and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will assess the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’s advancement during his visit. Trade, investment, technology, defence, energy, climate change, health, and education will all be discussed. In order to discuss prospects brought about by the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), the leaders will also meet with business leaders.

Starmer’s visit comes after Prime Minister Modi’s July visit to the UK, during which a trade agreement was inked and approximately £6 billion in new investment and export gains were confirmed, resulting in the creation of 2,200 jobs in the UK. With the historic UK-India trade agreement, British companies may now increase their trade with one of the world’s fastest-growing economies by lowering tariffs on British goods imported into India.

According to the UK government’s business and industry department, Starmer is leading a delegation of about 125 of the country’s most well-known CEOs, successful businesspeople, university vice chancellors, and cultural institutions on his trade mission to India in search of employment and growth back home.
