Ukrainian singer Uma Shanti throws Indian flag at crowd during Pune concert, booked for insulting Tricolour; Watch

A police official stated on Tuesday that Ukrainian singer Uma Shanti and another person were booked for allegedly insulting the tricolour during a concert in Pune.

The singer is the lead vocalist for the band “Shanti People,” which combines Vedic mantras with EDM (electronic dance music).

The alleged disrespect to the national flag occurred on the eve of Independence Day (August 14) during a musical event held in a restaurant-cum-bar in the city’s Mundhwa area, he stated.

An officer from the Mundhwa police station stated that singer Shanti, who was waving the tricolour while performing at the concert, suddenly flung the flag into the audience.

“She and event organiser Kartik More have been booked under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act and the Maharashtra Police Act,” he said.

Another officer stated that the singer and the event organizer have been issued a notice asking that they join the probe into the incident.
