Unlocking Delhi: Warned by the AIIMS doctor on resuming the metro services

Looking on the ongoing pandemic and current situation AIIMS doctor advices to go slow on unlocking face.

The current record of coronavirus cases stands at 28,808,372; with global tally 173.7mn.

Today Delhi recorded in total 381 cases. As per earlier reports it was announced by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal that there will be given relaxations on operating Delhi metro with 50% of capacity and shops and market to reopen on odd-even basis from June 7.

Dr. Naveet Wig, HoD of medicine and the chairperson of AIIMS advices the chief minister to experiment with 33-50% occupancy for first two weeks. He tweeted that “we should not start metro immediately. For 1-2 weeks we must experiment with 33-50%(occupancy). We should go slow otherwise lid will open up & we’ll not be able to suppress it. We cant eradicate the virus.”

The frequency of the metro will be five to fifteen minutes on Monday with rapid transport system resumes with 50% seating capacity improving the Covid-19 situation. Delhi metro rail corporation said the number of trains will be increased in graded manner.

On the other hand Delhi government also allowed the functioning of the small shops implying with liquor vends to reopen from Monday. Thereafter places such as cinemas, theaters, restaurants, bars, gyms, spas, barber shops, beauty parlour and salons will remain closed until further notice. However, home delivery though e-commerce has been allowed .

The ongoing lockdown in Delhi which was imposed on April 19 will be continued till June, 14, 2021.
