UP: 9 Arrested in Bulandshahr for alleged religious conversion attempt

Nine people have been taken into custody by police in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly trying to convert the village’s residents to Christianity, the police said Monday. Nine suspects were taken into custody by the police on Sunday after receiving a tip that someone was reportedly attempting to convert the people living in the Veerkheda village, which is under the jurisdiction of the Sikandrabad police station, they added.

According to police, the people who were detained were Rajendra and Neelam from the Ghaziabad district; Deepak from Gautam Buddh Nagar; Krishna from Faridabad; and Pappan, Ravi, Pradeep, Sunder, and Ashu from the Bulandshahr district. According to the police, the suspects acknowledged after questioning that they traveled throughout nearby districts to spread Christianity and get residents to convert by promising them money.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Shankar Prasad, the police claimed found nine cell phones belonging to various firms, cash, Bible copies, prayer leaflets, and conversion certificates in the accused’s hands. According to Prasad, preliminary interrogation showed that the gang had been active in Bulandshahr and the surrounding regions, trying to convert people to Christianity through inducements.
