US reports on COVID-19 origin: A lab accident or human contact with animals?

A report by US government National Laboratory on origin of deadly virus, concludes that the leak of virus is believed to be from Chinese laboratory of Wuhan and definitely deserves further investigation. The Wall Street Journal cited the same to the people familiar with the formal documents.

According to Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports, during the last few months of Donald Trump’s administration, an inquiry was conducted by the state governments on the study report based on the origin of the Coronavirus, carried out by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California.

The WSJ further added that the Lawrence Livermore’s assessment drew on a genomic analysis of the Virus upon which the Lawrence Livermore declined to comment.

However the reports circulated during his administration also allegedly claimed that three researchers at China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology became ill that they had to sought treatment at hospital on November 2019

Last month, President Joe Biden mentioned that he has ordered aid to investigate on finding answers to the origin of the Coronavirus.

However, the US Intelligence agencies are considering on two scenarios:

  • The virus came from a Human-Animal contact
  • The virus was a leak from Chinese Laboratory accident in Wuhan

Till now the agencies have not come down to strong conclusion but the investigations are on.

US officials accused China of not being transparent in terms of the origin of virus.

Earlier this month US infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci has called out on China to release its accurate medical record. This might provide vital clues on whether the virus was a result of laboratory leak or human-animal contact.
