Uttarakhand: At least 15 killed in Chamoli due to electrocution

At least fifteen people were killed after a power transformer exploded on the banks of the Alaknanda river in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, an official said on Wednesday. The official added that among the dead were three police officers and five home guards. Several others were also injured, who have been admitted to the district hospital.

Additional Director General of Police, Uttarakhand, V Murugesan said, “Around 15 people including a police sub-inspector and five home guards have died,” as quoted by ANI. He further stated that an investigation is underway, which reveals that there was current on the railing. Further details are expected to be uncovered post probe.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the district administration, SDRF, and police have reached the spot. Those injured are being transferred to AIIMS Rishikesh via helicopter.
