The heartbreaking family drama Vanvaas marks the return of Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma. Nana Patekar co-stars with his son Utkarsh Sharma in the film. Today i.e., October 29, the movie’s teaser was released.
Speaking of the same, the opening Shloka in the Vanvaas teaser states that a father is the same as God. The figure played by Nana Patekar is shown being stuck on a religious pilgrimage. It appears that he phones his son, but nobody steps in to help him. A sight of Utkarsh Sharma praying at a temple is shown. Then, astonishingly, we see Patekar’s character’s funeral.
Nana Patekar asks his son at the end of the teaser if he should have left him in a dumpster at birth. The movie’s tagline, which alludes to Lord Ram’s 14-year exile in Ramayan as a vow to his stepmother Kaikeyi, suggests that occasionally a person’s family members are the ones who send them to a Vanvaas (exile).
The harsh concept of children leaving their parents when they get old appears to be the central theme of Vanvaas. It promises to be an emotional rollercoaster and makes a big reference to the Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini film Baghban. One of the highlights of this one appears to be the performances, particularly those of Nana Patekar.
His portrayal in the teaser reflects his trauma, astonishment, and amazement at having his child desert him. The fact that his character is abandoned on a religious pilgrimage and then apparently passed off as dead by his son is even more unsettling. It will be intriguing to observe the connections between Nana Patekar and Utkarsh Sharma’s roles.
Before the teaser starts, there are also hints of Anil Sharma’s other films, such as Gadar, Gadar 2, and Apne, suggesting that Vanvaas will provide a similar familial and emotional experience. Simrat Kaur, Rajpal Yadav, and Khusbu Sundar play the main characters in the film as well. The release date is slated for December 20, 2024.
